• I am interested in purchasing a fire arm. Not sure if I want a hand gun or a rifle. My main reasons for considering this are:
self defense, right to bear arms (before that right vanishes), and the ability to learn about them. I've always been curious and would like to learn more. I also want my children to be knowledgable about fire arms also, for the same reason I listed above.

How do I get started? I'd really like to go through several training courses first... where can I find them?

Which type of gun is appropriate?

    Thanks!

  • What you need to decide when buying is the type of gun that you feel most comfortable owning.
Single action revolver, double action revolver, double action only revolver, single action semiauto, double action/single action semiauto with safety(on slide or frame), double action/single action semiatuo with decocker, double action only, precocked double action only(with safety or without).
Shotguns: single shot, pump action or semiauto.
Rifles: single shot, lever action, bolt action or semiauto(carbines or rifles).

  • Well...

    Wal*mart sells them..

So ask one of them. And also guns aren't really that necessary, just buy a home security system. And for your curiosity, there's gun ranges so you can practice shooting.

  • Just go to one of these gun shows and ask around and you will see how any crazy can get his hands on any gun.

  • PLEASE DONT SHOOT ME

  • I would go talk to some of the local gun shops. Most are really nice people. but not all. For general information you can register at

    www.gunsandammomag.com

Lots of nice folks who have no problem answering questions. There is a strict family policy and trolls are not tolerated. You will have to sign up and then be granted access.Might even find a shooting buddy.

What kind of firearm really depends on several factors. But since you have children involved I would purchase a good 357 revolver. It will take 38 special loads that are fairly gentle to shoot until you can shoot something hotter for self defense.

  • there are colleges in your area to learn how to properly use a gun and storage. It's actually a police academy class. In my area it's called pc832. They will teach you about firearm and which would best suit your needs. It also teaches self defense, cleaning the firearm, take it apart and put it back together.

The class will also reccemend where to purchase the firearm that is reputable.

i think if you want a firearm to for self defense, you must learn how to the firearm works and it's fundamentals. That's your best defense, not just to shoot it.
