• I want to know which galleries in the USA are selling Lithographs by Nelson Mandela and what are the prices his artwork is selling for ?

  • Very concise and prompt with pertainent information and certainly will use bobbie7 again. The scope of the reply was spot on and included several intersting pointers. I am a happy customer :-)

  • Hello Lusaka, Although I was not able to locate a gallery in the U.S. that has Nelson Mandela’s artwork, I did discover one of his lithographs for sale for a little over US $2,500. Description: An original handmade signed lithograph by Nelson Mandela. “This is part of a series entitled 'My Robben Island' and comprises 5 colour images from the island. The charcol and pastel images were sketched and completed by Nelson Mandela between March and June 2002. The Litho for sale depicts the view into Nelson Mandela's prison cell through the open door. The few possesions that prisoners were allowed have been emphasised in color, as they are a symbolic link with a reality outside the harsh prison regime. The meagre possessions typically included letters and photographs of family and friends - pieces of paper that acquired tremendous emotional value to prisoners. The Litho is signed and numbered (18 out of 500) six colour print and has been printed on Velin BFK Rives paper.” Would this interest you? Thanks Bobbie7-ga

  • Good evening Lusaka, I sent an email to the vendor of the Mandela lithograph and asked if he was going to repost this auction since it will be ending tomorrow. He replied that he will be reposting this artwork next weekend. Best wishes, Bobbie7

  • Hello Lusaka, Thank you for your question. I am posting my answer in reply to your clarification saying that the print I located is the information you’re looking for. Currently there is one Nelson Mandela mint condition lithograph available on E-bay. The vendor is from the UK but ships worldwide. The auction ends in a little over two days. The vendor is a registered member since March 2000 and has an excellent rating and 100% positive feedback reviews. You can view photos of the lithograph as well. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3514068123&category=360 Here is the complete description of the product: “This is a unique opportunity to acquire an original handmade signed lithograph by the world's greatest living statesman, Nelson Mandela. Prisoner, president, author... now artist February 8 2003 By Merope Mills London “A set of 20 lithographs went on sale yesterday. At $US2600 ($A4395) to $US3000 a copy, they may seem a little expensive for simple line drawings shaded with blocks of colour. But their subject is the notorious former apartheid prison Robben Island, and the artist is Nelson Mandela. An exhibition of Mr Mandela's new artwork opened at the island yesterday; it is the second series of charcoal and pastel drawings of his prison home of 18 years. The first appeared at London's Belgravia Gallery last year.” Source: The Age http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/02/07/1044579934346.html Mandela Paints His Former Prison February 12, 2003 Mandela Paints His Jailhouse Years by RACHEL L. SWARNS “The signed lithographs, which include two of Mr. Mandela's handprints, are being sold by the Belgravia Gallery in London for prices ranging from $2,600 for an individual drawing to $15,150 for a set of six drawings. By the end of the night, two British businessmen had spent more than $200,000 at the auction to acquire the artist's proofs.” http://radio.weblogs.com/0116791/stories/2003/02/12/mandelaPaintsHisFormerPrison.html 14 October '02 Mandela the Artist “An exhibition of five charcoal and pastel drawings depicting Robben Island, where Mandela spent 18 of his 27-year-long imprisonment, has been put on display at the Belgravia Gallery in central London. The pictures were created after a return visit to the island prison, which is off the coast of Cape Town, earlier this year. The drawings and handwritten captions portray a different image of the apartheid regime's darkest symbol than one might at first expect. Instead of revealing a vision of hopelessness, Mandela's art shows a Robben Island of light and color. At US$8450 per print, proceeds from the sale of Mandela's work, comprising 500 signed lithograph copies of the original drawings, will go to AIDS research.” http://www.lonelyplanet.com/scoop/archive.cfm?DPID=523®ion=afr Mandela's Art Exhibition on Robben Island By Guardian Newspapers, 2/6/2003 “A set of 20 lithographs will go on sale today.
