• Because they live in the real world. They know that human relationships are more important than what some unprovable God in some unknowable Heaven thinks about them. They are more concerned with being your friend than being your friend in the context of what a jealous, vengeful, cryptic, invisible, inaudible deity might or might not want of them and/or you. It's better this way.


  • because our honesty and wanting to be "nice" is a lot more genuine. They are choices and morales we make on our own, not ones that are made for us.


  • Generally speaking(typing), I would hazard a guess that your 'Christian' friends as a whole do not practice what they preach. Being a Christian means being Christ like. Jesus Christ is the only perfect human that has ever been born(Heidi Klum not withstanding).

  • Meh... I have mostly Christian friends in real life being that I'm in the Deep South and all. My atheist friends and Christian friends are about equally nice and compassionate... but I do tend to have far more in common with my atheist friends.

Allot of Christians I know are so focused on themselves that they don't seem to have any time for other people. I'm going to heaven, I'm more moral and righteous than everybody. I'll tell on anyone who does anything I view as immoral.(holding people accountable is what they call it) I don't cuss drink or smoke, I hate everyone who is different than me. From what I gather this is how most Christians think and act.

  • Atheists know that the only way to be nice and compassionate is, well, to be nice and compassionate. (Some) Christians think it's just down to whether or not you buy into their brand. There's no more incentive for such people to be nice than people who are brand-loyal to Nike.
