• I understand that beliefs and morals say alot about who a person is. I just don't understand the importance as to what specific religion our leader worships. Be him, or her, Christian, Muslim, Buddist, Jewish, Athiest, I really don't have a care. I'm concerned with WHO they are, not who they worship.I thought there was seperation of church and state for a reason. Why are you concerned about the worshiping practices of our leaders?

  • Because some religions don't admit that one's first allegiance must be to the state, not to the religion. Also, one's religious beliefs reflect on one's overall intelligence; do you want to have the nuclear button under the finger of one who has invisible green leprechauns sitting on his shoulders, telling him what to do?

  • it's the very nature of religion. People that have strong religious beliefs must therefore believe others wrong. Wrong = Bad. MOST people aren't as open minded as U.

  • Your argument was okay until you mentioned separation of church and state. First of all, there is no such thing, it was only mentioned in a letter written by Thomas Jefferson. The Constitution says nothing about separation of church and state. It only says that Congress shall pass no law regarding the formation of a state religion, meaning that Congress can't tell people which religion to practice. It says nothing that religion can not be involved in politics. Secondly, do you expect a man, regardless of his religion, to completely cast aside his beliefs when it comes to doing his job? Most religions (and I say most) preach about being kind and fair, but there are those who pervert these religions to be used for their own gain.

  • In a perfect world you're right, but the world ain't perfect. Religion is a volitile topic throughougt the world and it makes a political impact. For example, if we elected a Jewish President it very well might lead to all out war with the Middle East. To a lesser degree a catholic, muslim, etc has a worldwide political impact as well as one at home. Religious people vote and their numbers are legion. Is it right, fair, or logical? No, but it is reality.

  • I guess it matters because some (like Obama) believe that god has given them the right to choose to allow someone elses daughter (like yours) to have an abortion at 6 months. I guess it matters, if your family member was murdered by the the man sitting on death row asking for clemancy? I guess it matters if he refuses to say "God Bless America". because his religion says it is wrong, and instead says "God damned Americans".

  • Simple. If you are not Muslim, then Muslims want you dead. It says so in the Quran.

  • Obviously you know little about the Islamic Religion as practiced in it's true form. Not talking about converts here and in other western countries. I am talking about Islam as practiced throughout the Middle East. You cannot in any way shape or form compare Islam to other religions in the western world. Islam is more of a form of governing, enforced through Shiara laws that Muslims must and do obey.

If you will spend a couple of minutes reading here, you will clearly understand why Islam is so dangerous to mankind.

  • Look around the world. Where do you see the most flagrant religious bigotry? It's in the Muslim world. Beheadings and suicide bombings are 99.999% muslim perpatrated against Muslims of different sects and non Muslims. Maybe that's why citizens of the United States of America don't want anyone they perceive as Muslim running the show. The distrust is not illogical.

  • Why would anyone NOT care what religion our leader is?

My beliefs and morals are rooted directly in Biblical values. I want a president who respects and values what I do, because IT'S RIGHT. Things like abortion and homosexuality are not right, and I want a leader who is man enough to know that and try to change all of the garbage going on in our country.

  • I don't care

  • The vast majority of our nation is Christian. The candidate needs to appeal to the vast majority.

It doesn't make it right, it's just an explanation. I agree that religion is a non-issue.

  • Well it shouldn't but in this case Obama *supposedly* is a member of a religion that has waged a jihad against the Western world, making it pretty relevant.

  • I believe in the separation of church and state. The religion of our leader is of no importance to me. I'd vote for an atheist if I agreed with his/her views on where to take America. Faith or lack of faith should have no bearing on becoming President.

The issue with regard to religion and this election, in particular with Obama, is important for one simple reason. That reason being honesty. Obama is a Christian. However, some do believe he is a Muslim. Now if Obama were lying about being a Christian when he is really a Muslim, then that would be huge. If he were lying about his religion, then it would beg the question, what else is he lying about? However, I believe he is a Christian. His morals and values spelled out in The Audacity of Hope would satisfy any Christian that he is a follower of Jesus.

  • As long as we follow the Constitution and have Freedom of Religion which is the reason for this nation being created in the first place, I have no Earthly idea why they care. I'm a Christian, but according to my Bible it is not up to me to judge. Separation of Church and State was born out of Freedom of Religion. A lot of people tend to get the "Holier than Thou" syndrome.

  • I'd rather Obama be Muslim than go to the racist and anti-American "church" he went to.

  • Radical Muslims want to take over the world, they are taught to kill infidels, and some are being taught that right here in the good ole USA in Islamic School textbooks even. Radical Islamics want us to convert to Muslims, if we don't they want us all dead. Just like the Terrorists, we are breeding some now in America.

Here is a big fan of MalcolmX ! LINK:

Obama's book Dreams From My Father:
    Obama says:
If Malcolms discovery toward the end of his life, that some whites might live beside him as brothers in Islam, seemed to offer some hope of eventual reconciliation, that hope appeared in a distant future, in a far-off land. In the meantime, I looked to see where the people would come from who were willing to work toward this future and populate this new world.

  • I personally could care less. However, many people feel that the United States was based on Christian Ideals that our leader should uphold. I prefer to look at things a bit differently. I prefer to believe the founding fathers happened to be Christian and built our country with 'freedom of religion' in mind. As long as the leader (chosen by the People) continues to uphold the Constitution, I have no problem with any religion that doesn't interfere with me practicing mine.

  • Religious bigotry is the last frontier to concur regarding hatred. Religion and communities are the major reasons for war.

  • Yes it does matter: You want a leader who espouses the folkways and moral ways of the main population body.

    Islam is anti-democratic, anti-Jewish, Anti-American, and Anti-Christian by nature.

The Morons although Christian espouse a lot of beliefs that is too close to Islam for my comfort.

  • some people seem to think that all muslims are extremeists and that all muslims are completely sympathetic to other muslim countries. Obama is an american first, and wouldn't let a religion get in the way of what he knows is best for his country.

Islam is practically the same religion as christianity: it is a religion based on peace and equality. The small amount of extremists are the only ones who ever get media coverage though. The extremists are to islam what John Jones was to christianity.

People need a seious slap to the face so they can wake up and see that this election is possibly the most important one in 100 years, and that abortion and gay rights should be of much less importance than the real matters at steak such as foriegn oil and the current recession.

  • Obama must be concerned with it

Why else did he have two muslim moved from the view of the camera at his rally so they didnt hurt his image

  • do you not realize that atheism, marxism/communism,socialism.are religions in themselves, they do'nt worship a specific deity, they worship their ideology,it's called humanism.

  • it shouldn't be that way but we will see if McCain choses that Mormon for his VP what the Evangelicals voters reaction will be.

  • Your question is clearly stimulated by an educated mind. Just know that you are correct and the same mentality should be used when reading the Consitution! Others shoul do the same:)

  • If you knew the history of Obama, you would know why some people, including me, don't like the fact that he is Muslim.

  • I never vote based on race, gender or religion. I don't care what religion the person is. It has no basis in whether they are qualified or not.

HOWEVER, Pastor Wright is not a religion issue. It is a character, or lack there-of, issue regarding Obama. Someone with character wouldn't support a bigot like Pastor Wright.

  • 1. I have the right to care

    2. Our country was founded on the Christian belief

  • Moral Agnostic, so don't care what religious figure politician have bought. Try to find out what people in world history a would be president admires, his or her position on armed conflict wars, position on abortion, environment. Value they have when spending money.

  • Because while we claim to believe in freedom of religion many of us refuse to accept the idea of having someone of a religion we do not support in a position of power over us. There is nothing new in this. Many people thought Kennedy could not be elected because Americans would never support a catholic. I have no problem with the President or any other elected official observing their chosen faith, including Muslims, so long as they honor the concept of the Separation of Church and State.

Edit: Thumbs Down for Freedom of Religion. How amusing. See what I mean, they cannot even accept the mere mention of supporting the same rights for all if it means that ones they deem less worthy might be elected.
