Whats more important with guitar? passion or skill?
January 8th, 2009 |my opinion on this? i say passion is more important because without the passion for the music your just playing to showoff your skill. like im in a punk rock band and singer and lead guitar player right, i play mainly to have fun with it. i dont care that its dead easy i just put my whole heart and soul into the music and just have fun with it and i have average skills but because i have all the heart for the music it sounds good.
Look at the Foo Fighters. A lot of their songs are just good, fairly easy, chord-y riffs that are catchy and very good sounding. Sure, every great lead guitarist would destroy Dave Grohl in a guitar duel, but so what? They're making more money and have more support than most insane shredding guitarists. I'm not saying that learning how to shred and solo really well is a bad thing (it's definitely not,) but having great sounding, passionate music is what you need the most. Then order a side of shred with that.
Interesting question. I had a passion for the guitar and music. The skill came automatically. I agree that if love something, you go for it and the rest follows.
If you have the skills and you don't have that passion, your music will sould like a robot playing.
Skill first, passion second. When you have the skill, the passion just happens. However, the opposite is not true. Passion will never make up for skill. Even if you believe in "breaking the rules," you have to know the rules before you can break them.
BTW, an opinion does not need to be proven.

Passion needs for rhytm.
Skill needs for the achievement.
